Entry ban codes

Entry ban codes: meanings, durations, ways to remove them.

An entry ban code (tahdit kodu) is a record in the files of the migration authority (Göç İdaresi) that restricts a foreigner’s entry, exit or residence procedures. Search for your code below; let us talk together about what it means and the way forward.

Know this first

There is no official, complete list of codes available to the public

The migration authority (Göç İdaresi) does not publish a complete list of the codes, their definitions or their durations. The meanings below are those generally accepted in legal sources; for some codes, sources give a different meaning or duration, and we have said so clearly. The exact meaning and duration should be confirmed from the entry ban notification form (giriş yasağı bildirim formu) notified (tebliğ) to the person.

Under the law, a foreigner who is deported is banned from entering Türkiye. An entry ban lasts at most 5 years; if there is a serious threat to public order or security, it can be increased by up to 10 more years. The migration authority can lift the ban, or allow entry for a set period while the ban continues (Law No. 6458, Art. 9).

Entry ban by length of the violation

In 2020 the migration authority announced the entry ban periods applied for visa or residence violations. The announcement does not give code numbers; the periods are as follows.

Length of violationEntry ban
Less than 3 monthsNone
3 months – 6 months1 month
6 months – 1 year3 months
1 year – 2 years1 year

Even if the ban period has ended, if there is an unpaid administrative fine (idari para cezası) or other debt to the state (kamu alacağı), entry is not allowed until it is paid.

How is a code removed?

  1. Find out the code and the reason

The entry ban notification form states the code, the reason and the ways to object. If there is no form, we will plan together how to find out what the record says.

  2. Administrative application

The migration authority (Göç İdaresi) can lift the entry ban, or allow entry for a set period while the ban continues (Art. 9(6)).

  3. Annulment action (iptal davası)

If no special time limit applies, a case can be filed at the administrative court within 60 days of written notification (Administrative Procedure Law (İYUK), Art. 7). The time limit against a deportation decision, however, is 7 days.

  4. Paying debts

If there is an unpaid administrative fine or unpaid deportation costs, these must be paid first.

Frequently asked questions

Questions you may have

How can I find out my entry ban code?

The entry ban is notified (tebliğ) to the foreigner, and the notification states the ways to object (Law No. 6458, Art. 10). If you do not have any document, let us plan together how to find out what the record says.

Is a code removed automatically when its period ends?

Codes with a set period are lifted when the period ends; however, entry may still be blocked if there is an unpaid fine or unpaid costs. For codes without a time limit, or codes that make entry subject to prior permission, a separate application is needed.
